Longitudinal wave

Learning objectives

  • To distinguish longitudinal from transverse waves ;
  • To modify the principal characteristics of a wave ;
  • To show that the particles simply oscillate about their individual equilibrium positions.

A longitudinal sinusoidal wave which you can modify the frequency and the wavelength.
Particle displacement is parallel to the direction of wave propagation. The red particle indicates that all particles simply oscillate back and forth along their individual equilibrium positions.
