Hyperglycemia
Learning objectives
- Illustrate an example of the principle of homeostasis
- Give an example of hormonal communication
- Describe glucose metabolism
This animation illustrates the hyperglycemic action of insulin produced by β cells of the pancreas, during a hyperglycemia.
The consequences at the target organ level (liver, muscule tissue, fat tissue) are:
- The stimulation of glucose entry into cells.
- The stimulation of glycogenogenesis in hepatic and muscle cells.
- The stimulation of lipogenesis into adipose cells.
- The stimulation of muscular glycolysis.
Click on the pancreas, the liver, the muscular tissue and the adipose tissue to illustrate how these organs react when faced with a hyperglycemia.
