2 electric point charges

Learning objectives

  • To reveal the symmetry of the electric field created by two single charges.
  • To explain the link between the field vector at a point and the lines of force at this point.
  • To see at every point how the principle of superposition acts.

Principle of superposition: The total electrical field at a point is the vector sum of the fields at this point due to each point charge.

The total electric force experienced by a single charge at a point is equal to the vector sum of the forces due to each source charge.
