Diverging lens #2

Learning objectives

  • To illustrate the effects of a diverging lens on light rays.
  • To understand what focal length represents.
  • A ray passing through the center of the lens will not be deflected.
  • A ray proceeding parallel to the principal axis will diverge as if he came from the image focal point F'.

These properties are used to construct ray diagrams in order to locate the (virtual) image of an object through a diverging lens.

Click and drag vertically the lens.
Click and drag horizontally the focal point F'.
